What is cloud computing and what are the benefits?
In today’s modern business climate, the importance of a smooth running IT infrastructure and the availability of massive amounts of data storage are essential pieces in a much larger puzzle. Most businesses have internal servers they use to store their data – sometimes more than one – and an IT staff dedicated to maintaining and troubleshooting said servers.
Private cloud computing allows businesses to rent storage capacity in an off-site data center – and it gives them the ability to access the data via the Internet, also known as the “Cloud”. The rental fee covers not only the cost of the storage space, but also the maintenance, troubleshooting and upgrade servicing of both hardware and software. Cloud-based services traditionally include email and accounting as well as other business-critical tools and applications.
Private cloud computing is cost effective, saving the business owner the price of replacing and repairing outdated equipment and hiring and training additional IT staff. Having access to unlimited flexible storage, networking and processing options allow businesses to quickly and efficiently adjust in a rapidly changing technological landscape. In fact, the difference between success and failure in today’s business world may well hinge on the ability (or lack there of) to “shift on the fly” and make these kinds of rapid-fire adjustments.
Put simply, Private Cloud computing is the future of information technology. When a business is in the cloud, it means that IT personnel are no longer forced to worry about management and maintenance of office infrastructure. Their time can now be used in the nature that is was originally intended – concentrating on innovative ideas and driving real business value with their creativity and knowledge.
Private Cloud computing provides all the benefits of a Public cloud (Google Apps, Microsoft BPOS, SalesForce.com etc…), but in a more efficient package. It increases mobility allowing for increased availability of data, applications and resources and allows businesses to get “lean and mean” by effectively eliminating many capital expenditures. Cloud services are rapidly becoming the top choice when it comes to delivering business services, and Private Cloud services take the Cloud concept to a new level – one where independence and flexibility reign supreme and businesses actually gain freedom as opposed to losing it.
In the end, flexibility is key. The cloud provides many more options to the savvy business owner than conventional internal storage and service – likely at an overall cost savings.
